The first weekend of November saw our Lower Sixth form student, Aimee Russell compete in the Ulster Short Course Championships held at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast. With almost 1,000 entries the three day event was approached by our Cambridge House student with confidence.
Aimee choose to compete across 5 events to compliment her race execution. Tuning her skills Aimee achieved many personal bests and placed in the top 10 in each event.
She was particularly delighted with her performance in 50m back stroke. With this super swim she gained a smashing personal best and secured a place in the final on Friday evening with 6th time Gold Medalist Bethany Firth OBE!
Yet again on the Saturday she produced another strong swim in 200m back reaching the finals with another pb and a bronze medal for finishing 3rd overall age groups.
Completing the weekend meet on Sunday Aimee swam in her favourite 100m back event where she executed a fantastic race gaining yet another pb and yet another bronze medal finishing 3rd overall!
Aimee has now secured two qualification times to compete in 100m Back & 200m Back for the Irish National Winter Championships in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin in December.
This is a very encouraging start to the senior season and we wish her every success in Dublin.
