Luke Buchanan has just been crowned Irish Open Champion for the second time in the recent Irish Jiu Jitsu Championships held in Blanchardstown. Fighting off over 30 contenders within the division, in 5 consecutive fights, Buchanan claimed the gold medal in the adult category.
After only two and a half years training in this sport, Buchanan (17) is no stranger to victory; having previously won the Northern Ireland Open at juvenile level in February 2016 and the Irish Open in the adult division in April 2016.
Buchanan, who is now entering his final year of study at Cambridge House Grammar School, explained that his disciplined approach to balancing training alongside full-time study has allowed him to achieve this high level of success.
As the summer holidays approach, Luke has no intention of winding down and relaxing; instead it will be a case of training as usual as he holds the upcoming British Open and European Open in his sights.
