1st XI through to quarter-final of Senior Plate

Cambridge House Grammar School 1st XI hockey team are through to the last 8 of the Ulster Schools' Senior Plate competition after defeating Royal & Prior School in Raphoe on Tuesday 19th January.

After the long journey to Donegal, the Cambridge House girls started strongly with good attacking play from Adeleine Carey, Lois Carey, Emily Anderson, Alyson Greer and Rebekah Carson. The first goal came from an excellent reverse stick cross from captain, Emma Heron, who found a well - positioned Rebekah Carson who put the ball in the back of the net in the 13th minute.

The Royal & Prior girls had some strong attacking play in the first half but strong defensive play by Jessica Small, Leah Harkin, Chloe Farquhar, Rachel McCloy and Katelyn McCormick (GK) kept the visitors ahead at half time.

In the second half Cambridge House scored another good goal with Leah Harkin, who was celebrating her 18th birthday, finding Lois Carey who slotted the ball in the back of the net. Shortly after this goal Leah was involved again when she passed the ball to Emma Heron from a corner.  Emma majestically took the ball on her reverse and scored an amazing goal into the top of the net putting Cambridge House 3 – nil ahead.

The Raphoe girls never gave up and scored from well-rehearsed move making the final score:

This was an excellent whole team performance from the CHGS girls who are now through to the ¼ final. Good performances on the pitch also came from Katie Woolf, Nikita Short and Victoria Winter.

The team would like to thank Mrs Drewitt for umpiring and Mr Gleghorne for his inspiring quotes, preparation, coaching and support throughout the season.

A special thank you must go to the home team for their kind hospitality and refreshments for the journey back to Ballymena. These were thoroughly enjoyed along with Emma's doughnuts!
