CHGS 1 XV 3-15 Dalriada 2 XV
Cambridge could not build on their win last week over Carrick, as they were swept aside by Dalriada for the second time this season in a lacklustre fixture on Saturday morning.
Both sides shared plenty of possession in the opening minutes, but a lack of a cutting edge proved detrimental to both sides. The deadlock was broken after 10 minutes by Dalriada following a good spell of pressure which led to a well taken try.
Cambridge, playing towards the school in the first half, almost got back on level terms immediately, but for a forward pass which halted an almost certain try.
Dalriada capitalised on this fortune by adding to the score not long after as they crossed the line for another try.
Bovill got Cambridge on the score board with a fantastic 35 meter penalty, cutting the Dalriada lead to 10-3 at half time.
Both teams struggled to hold possession in the second half, with turnovers becoming a key theme in the game.
A sweeping move by Dalriada was expertly broken up by Campbell, whose tackle knocked the ball from the hands of the Dalriada wing as he was bearing down on the try line. Dalriada were not to be denied for long however, as they broke from half way to score a third try and thus end any notions of a Cambridge comeback.
Although this was a tough result to take for Cambridge, they can take heart from the fact they didn’t allow Dalriada to have it all their own way, something which has happened in the team’s previous fixture.
