Cambridge House 13-27 Limavady Grammar
Cambridge House were left frustrated in their attempts to progress to the 3rd round of the Schools Cup, as they were defeated by a lively Limavady side under the floodlights of Eaton Park on Friday night.
On front of a significant home crowd, Cambridge were able to seize the initiative early on, capitalising on a good early spell of possession with a penalty which was chipped over confidently by Bovill to give Cambridge a 3-0 lead.
Limavady were able to gain a foothold in the fixture immediately following Bovill’s kick, and were able to get themselves on the score board after 15 minutes, with a sweeping move which was finished in the corner to give limavady a 7-3 lead.
Both teams were able to exchange penalties before Limavady scored a critical try just before half time to give the visitors a 15-6 lead.
The 2nd half opened somewhat uneventfully as both sides traded possession but struggled to make any impact in each other’s half. Bovill missed two difficult kicks, one which bizarrely hit the crossbar, as Cambridge passed up opportunities to cut the deficit.
These misses would come back to haunt Cambridge, as Limavady were able to execute a move with their backline which set up their forwards to drive the ball over to give Limavady a seemingly unassailable 20-6 lead.
Cambridge were briefly given period of optimism after Millar was able to burst through to score a try, but this hope soon turned to disappointment as Millar had his pass intercepted by a Limavady player who ran the ball back under the posts to confirm Limavady’s place in the next round.
