Cambridge house under 14s produced a fantastic NI cup performance today at Ballymena Showgrounds defeating St. Pats & St. Brigids Claudy 8-2 on a sunny October's day.

Cambridge started brightly exerting pressure immediately through their midfield, led by the inspirational Cameron Stewart. Linking well with wingers Jude Currie and Joel Barr. Cambridge flooded the oppositions box with countless crosses. On form striker David Bates executed the finish and scored a hat trick before half time.

Ross Kerr, in a supporting role up top, kept Cambridge moving forward into dangerous areas and kept the away keeper working hard to keep his side in the game. Jude Currie followed up this pressure with two excellent strikes to leave the half time score 5-0 at halftime.

In the second half CHGS made a few changes with Josh Kirkpatrick, Dylan Robinson and Joel Telford coming on for Sam Millar, Jodie Ballentine and Ross Kerr, all of which were tremendous in their work rate for the team. Telford and Robinson linked superbly in the box for Telford to slot home 2 cool finishes managing a "brace" in 15mins from coming onto the pitch.

CHGS took their foot off the pace in a bleak period towards the closing 10 minutes when 2 penalties were awarded to the away side. Sensational keeper all day, Connor friel who seemed unbeatable, nearly saved the first getting a foot to the ball but couldn't keep the ball from rippling the onion bag. 7-2 with minutes to play, it was a fitting end for Cameron Stewart to score the goal of the day, dribbling past many a defender and accurately striking the ball into the corner of the net.

8-2 final score

A fantastic start to the NI Cup, the CHGS team were clinical in their performance, maturely led by captain Oliver Hampshire and vice captain Jordan McMullan, both centre halfs in command all day. Scott Hunter deserves another special mention for his tackling in the midfield and drive moving forward.

Well done boys!!!
